Breast reduction

Breast hypertrophy is excessive breast volume. It can occur during puberty, and it most often occurs in pregnant women, and then in nursing mothers. Breasts like this often result in neurological disorders in the form of pain in the neck and spine, and in addition, the aesthetic factor is also significant, which often has an impact on the emotional state of a woman. Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that involves reducing the size of female breasts. This is achieved by removing excess fatty and glandular tissue and skin in order to obtain smaller and shaped breasts.

Preoperative preparation

Checking the general state of health and basic laboratory analyzes is mandatory for all patients. It would be desirable to stop smoking and taking medicines and preparations that affect blood coagulation.

A clinical and ultrasound examination of the breasts and, if necessary, a mammography are mandatory. During the preoperative preparation, photo documentation is made, which is complemented by photos during and after the operation, as well as during dressing.

Surgery

  • Anesthesia: Breast reduction is performed under general endotracheal anesthesia.
  • Duration: Depending on the size and the selected technique of breast reduction, the operation lasts 120-240 minutes.

Breast reduction involves reducing the breast tissue, reshaping and lifting the glandular tissue and correcting the position of the nipple and areola in order to achieve the desired result. Depending on the patient’s problem, an incision is made, after which excess tissue, skin and fat are removed in order to reduce the volume of the breast.

Postoperative course

A feeling of pain, pressure, swelling occurs in the first days. The compression bra is worn for 4-6 weeks, depending on the size of the breast and the technique used. In 7 days to three weeks, depending on the healing and recovery process, the patient’s stitches will be removed. It is very important to come for check-ups regularly so that our doctors can monitor your recovery. Two weeks after the operation, the patient can shower.

Sports activities and physical efforts should be avoided for at least three weeks after the operation, it is recommended to start with light walks a few days after the operation. During the next two to three weeks, you return to normal activities, while six weeks after the operation it is possible to return to training. Our friendly staff will explain all the steps in detail.
